Back In Malaga - day 1
For our first trip abroad since the pando, a Malaga birthday trip was the obvious choice.
Our flight was at 655am so I spent £90 to give us the luxury of the express car park with priority security to give us maximum time in bed. It was incredible. We were 20 mins from the house to being through security! What if I can never go back!
The flight was pretty uneventful, pretty much on time and no turbulence to talk of. The post-brexit passport queue was something else entirely- it was massive! Meanwhile the EU queue was much shorter and had more than double the counters open. Thankfully, we'd been in row 2 of the plane so we got there before most other people on our flight. I think they should have had a separate queue for people who voted for that horror!
We jumped on the train into town and it was clean and quick as usual. You still have to wear masks on public transport in Spain and everyone Spanish seemed to be adhering to it. Most of the people that got on at the airport did not even though Easyjet emailed us about it and there we're signs and announcements in the airport.
We were pretty starving when we arrived in town so, even though it was just after noon, we went straight for some food at Recyclo. The locals were still eating breakfast but we had some chicken croquetas, a pork arepa and meatballs in an almond sauce that came with banging potatoes. We had some non-alcoholic beer on the side too. Absolutely delicious meal, highly recommended!
After that we just wound our way through the old town to find our air bnb. Thankfully, they'd messaged us to say it was ready early. On the way we passed a cheesecake shop called La Tarta de la madre de Cris and it looked delicious so we got a wee slice to take away.
We arrived at the apartment and managed to get the keys out of the lock boxes etc and let ourselves in. It is *incredible*, the balcony looks over the roman ampitheatre and the Alcazaba and also has a view of the cathedral. Inside it is clean and modern and the bed is comfy, couldn't ask for more.
We just chilled in the room for a bit cos we were exhausted. I lay on the bed next to the open window and enjoyed the sun on my face. We also ate the cheesecake, it was the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. I was raging that we were sharing.
After a wee while we went a wee wander and stopped at the supermarket for some supplies. On the way back to the apartment we grabbed a seat outside 100 Montaditos for a wee refresco. We got a deal for €6 - 2 wee rolls (pulled pork and mini chips for me and jamon with tomato for k), a snack (vegan nugz) and 2 drinks (shandy for me, coke zero for K). What an absolute steal!
We dropped the stuff off at the room then headed for the Pompidou cos it's free after 4pm on a Sunday. The exhibitions were really great and completely different from our last visit.
Post-art we went a walk past the shops restaurants of the port then stopped at 100 Montaditos for a wee drink. I had a tinto verano and K had another coke zero. The view from outside 100 Montaditos is amazing cos you see the whole marina and over toward the town in 1 direction and mountains and the sea the other way.
We wandered back along the port passing a replica of an old Spanish boat called the Nao Victoria on the way. It was amazing cos it didn't start getting dark til about 630, a far cry from the 4pm in Glasgow at the moment!
We sat outside Lolita and ordered some tapas for dinner. It was only about 7 when we arrived which is a bit early for Spain but it was already rammed. We had jamon croquetas, patatas bravas, an iberian cheese and meat platter and an individual tortilla topped with jamon and onion which was massive! Everything was delicious and the non-alcoholic beer was Victoria which was nice. Everything was delicious and it turned out to be way more food than we were expecting - don't worry, we finished it all like champions.
We arrived back at the apartment at about 830 but, considering we left the house at 5am, I was impressed we made it that far!
