Prague Day 2 - part 2

We headed out for dinner at Next Door, unfortunately it wasn't next door to our apartment and was quite the schlep. I've walked more today than my gammy ankle would have liked.

We arrived and were shown to our seats which had a view of the kitchen, always a good sign. The restaurant is run by a celebrity chef who does Czech's answer to Kitchen Nightmares so we had high hopes for the meal. We weren't disappointed.

We started with some cocktails, an aperol spritz for me cos I'm a grown up and a Shirley Temple for K cos she is not. Then the waiter brought over some bread and a mystery spread - we think he said cheese and ham but who knows.

The reason we chose Next Door is because I saw a review online saying they did the best svickova so we both ordered that. It was basically the same thing I had at lunch but much much better. 2 thick, tender, slices of beef in a creamy sauce topped with cranberries served with bread dumplings. The bread dumplings came separately wrapped in a moist (cloth) napkin to keep them fresh. The waiter put 2 on each plate and left the rest for later. He arrived midway through the meal to top these up and also had a wee gravy boat of sauce which he poured onto our plates too. Very dramatic.  We also had a side of green beans which were cooked perfectly too.

I was super full and couldn't finish my main but for some reason we though sharing a dessert was a good idea. We got an ice cream sundae that the waiter poured hot chocolate sauce over when he brought it to the table. I was too full to eat much but K pushed on like a trooper.  The whole thing cost £43 including tip which considering the quality of the food, and the fancyness of the venue generally, seems like really good value.

On the way back to our apartment we stopped and some wee Xmas market like stalls but didn't buy anything. There was a weird pumpkin display that seemed really American.

We were heading back to the apartment to change but just as we arrived crazy super heavy rain started and thunder and lightening arrived. We were about 10 seconds away from the air bnb but still got soaked through so we decided just to call it a night! It has all stopped now so hopefully it will cool everything down, it doesn't seem to have yet though.

Castle tomorrow!
