Malaga Day 4 - photos

Day 4 Malaga

Our final day was a short one as we had to get the 1350 train to the airport. We had no big plans, just to eat stuff and enjoy the sunshine.

Our first stop was an alfresco breakfast next to the cathedral at El Jardin 1887. We both had just had pan tomate and coffee but it was delicious.

Once we were fueled up we went a walk up the hill towards the castle. We did that thing where we kept taking photos all the way up even though the view kept improving. We call that move a Giralda after our climb up the cathedral in Spain many years ago.

The views at the top were incredible, it was a beautiful day so you could see for miles with deep blue skies and the blue blue sea. Very much worth the effort!

When we got back down, we headed to the apartment and grabbed our bags. It was an amazing apartment in an incredible location with Antonio Bamderas apparently living upstairs! We'll def stay there again.

It was time for another tiny Spanish coffee so we just went back to Framil since their coffee was delicious the other day. When we got there we decided to order a couple of churros each too since we knew it would be our last opportunity. Delicious!

I'd booked a locker at a left luggage place next to the train station even though it was only for a few hours so that we could enjoy our time unburdened and it was def worth the €6. Lovely place and very well organised - it was called Lock and Relax and we did.

Our final thing on our holiday to-do list was to hire some escooters. They aren't allowed in the historic centre anymore so we headed down to the waterfront to get them. We downloaded the app and we were off. It's incredible cos the ground is smooth smooth marble. I was flying, weaving in and out of pedestrians with the wind in my hair and a smile on my face! K was a bit more sensible but still loving it.

After scooting about for a while we grabbed a seat overlooking the water at Chopp and ordered a Fanta each (lemon for K, orange for me). It being Spain, they gave us some free tortilla, olives and breadsticks too. We sat just enjoying the sun and the people watching.

We then decided to hire some scooters again to take us back to the other end of the marina - it really is the most fun and walking is for chumps. Back in the Old Town we decided we had time for one last coffee so we just went to La Cueva de 1900. We grabbed a outside table and I ordered a bonbon and K a cafe con leche. My bonbon came as a shot of espresso with a sachet of condensed milk on the side, I'd never seen it like that before but it was delicious once assembled. Sadly, it was then time to pick up our bags and head to the airport.

We got through security really quickly so we had plenty of time to grab lunch before our flight. K had a baguette with tortilla and jamon and I had chicken fingers and chips (weirdly popular in Spain) and we shared some final jamon croquetas.

Our flight boarded 45 mins early and even left early so it was a pretty smooth trip home. Now we're back in rainy Glasgow and I'm already looking forward to our trip to Mallorca in May!

Malaga Day 3 Photos

Malaga Day 3

Another banging, roasting, day in Malaga. We started the day with churros and chocolate at our favourite joint - Casa Aranda down next to the market. K always gets cola cao (an instant hot choc) cos she is a baby but I get the good stuff.

They were, of course, excellent. I could probably eat about a million of them! Churros here are thicker and less sweet than the traditional thin churros and all the better for it.

After breakfast we strolled over to the contemporary art museum, CAC. We love it there and have seen loads of great exhibitions and today's visit was no different. The only thing was that there was a primary school visit and they were very loud and shrill.

Post museum we went a stroll around the Soho area, taking in some street art along the way. K was delighted to find a cake she'd been looking for and bought 2 "incase it is amazing". We had a wee coffee stop at PicNic and I had my first bonbon of the holiday (coffee with condensed milk) and we also both had a lovely freshly squeezed orange juice.

Feeling revitalised, we wandered about a bit more and popped into a comic shop. Then we went to Doña Inez where we had planned a pre-lunch snack cos I'd seen one of their things online a few times and knew I needed it! Annoyingly, it wasn't open yet, even though it should have opened 20 minutes previously - classic Spain!

It was roasting by this point so we decided to wander up to the apartment to dump our jackets rather than hanging about. When we got back 20 mins later it was open and the outside tables we're starting to fill up. I'm glad we got one!

We ordered a caña each and the brioche de rabo de toro that we'd come for. It was just a wee snack and was €7 but it worth every penny. It was incredible, definitely worth the hype!

Post snack we headed up to Orellana for the rest of our lunch. When we got there we discovered that they are closed for a few weeks, gutted! We decided just to go to La Tranca cos we only wanted a wee thing. It's a very popular old bar that does tapas, absolutely no frills, just good food. It was rammed but we managed to grab a couple of stools. We just had some jamon croquetas and a wee piece of tortilla but they were both very good examples of the classics. K had her first (and 2nd) Kas Limon of the holiday and I stuck to non-alcoholic Victoria beer.

We headed back towards the apartment and just ended up grabbing some seats outside 100 Montaditos to enjoy the sun and chill for a while. We had some non-alcoholic beers and a giant cone of crisps. K also had a tiny chocolate roll (gadz) and I had a tiny burger which was "fine". The crisps and beer and sun were great though!

We had nothing planned for this afternoon so we eventually just headed back to the apartment where I lay on the bed next to the open balcony doors with the sun beating down on me and K read her book in the shade. Win/win.

We headed down to the port to enjoy the sunset and a lovely walk along the front and a wee seat at the end to enjoy the views.

The restaurant we'd planned to go to for dinner didn't open til 830 and I didn't fancy waiting til after 9 to eat. I was also acutely aware that we hadn't had a vegetable all day! We decided to go to Udon for, unsurprisingly, some noodles. It was still after 8 when we got there so we weren't eating at "embarrassing tourist o'clock" but it was still a bit early.

We had some edamame and some udon noodles, k just had veg and I had veg and chicken. They weren't exciting or fancy in any way but they were exactly what we fancied.

After tea we just had a wee wander about and popped into some shops then we headed back to the apartment. We've only got til lunchtime tomorrow then our flight back is a 4pm.

Malaga Day 2 - part 2 photos

Malaga Day 2 - part 2

After lazing about for ages, we went out to Santa Coffee for a wee beverage. I had a flat white and K had a latte. It's a nice local hipster style coffee shop, the cakes looked good too but we were saving ourselves.

After yet another wander we grabbed a seat outside Casa Lola for a drink. I had a beer (sin alcohol) and K had a Fanta limon. We weren't going to eat anything but accidentally had a couple of ox tail croquetas each cos we're gluttons! The place was very chaotic as it was very understaffed and very busy. Our service was slow but eventually fruitful but the American couple next to us had a terrible time of it.

The we came back to the apartment to get ready for dinner and I had a lovely birthday video call with Gemma and Dean.

Eventually, it was 9pm and time for dinner. We headed round to El Meson de Cervantes where we've had a couple of good meals on previous visits. It was rammed as always but luckily K booked it weeks ago.

We had the same sassy old woman server as the last time, I assume she has something to do with the ownership of the business. We had a lot of food - all delicious - and I'm currently lying on top of the bed feeling too full while K casually eats a Toblerone.

We had a full rocket, goats cheese and forest fruits salad which was way more than the sum of its parts. Then we had 4 meaty af half portions (hence the stuffedness). They were beef with chimichurri and some potatoes and salad; iberico pork with roast pumpkin and pineapple puree; meatballs in a tomato sauce with rice and an absolutely delicious wild boar stew with a sort of tattie scone. We came a long way home to try and walk some of it off but it didn't help at all.

I need to eat loads again tomorrow to fit everything in!

Malaga Day 2 - part 1

It's my birthday today so I'm happy to report it has been a great day. We had no real plans other than dinner which is booked for 9 at Meson Cervantes so we just decided to see where the day took us.

We headed out in search of breakfast at about 930. I was in the mood for pan tomate so knew I could get it anywhere so didn't make any firm plans. We were heading in the direction of the market when we approached Framil Cafeteria. It was rammed with Old Spanish people so I knew it must be good. We grabbed the last outside table and ordered coffee and pan tomate for 2, we also ordered a porra (the local type of big churros) each cos they looked banging. We we're correct, it was an excellent choice and very cheap. I love tiny Spanish coffee!

Post-breakfast we continued to head towards the market and passed an amazing looking homemade crisp shop. I have no idea how K restrained herself tbh. We went a walk about the market but didn't end up buying anything. It's always nice to see all the local produce!

After that we sat outside La Cueva de 1900 for a secondary coffee and just enjoyed the sunshine. It has been about 20 degrees today and absolutely roasting even though it has been cloudy at times.

We went a wander about the town and K bought some homemade vegetable crisps and we got some cheese and jamon for the apartment. We dropped the stuff off and I grabbed my sunglasses then we headed for the beach. We went a lovely walk along the front and stopped for a paddle. What a treat! Especially since the weather is so miserable at home.

When our tummies told us it was lunch time we headed to Gorki at muelle uno for a lunch with a view. It is a touristy place cos of the location but I was happy to pay a bit more for the view. The food was all delicious! We had jamon croquetas (again), a slightly different kind of bravas with boiled baby potatoes, chicken curry gyoza and the biggest portion of sobrasada I've ever seen. K played classic tourist with Fanta limon and I was back on the Victoria sin alcohol. I can't fault the food at all, every single thing was excellent!

After lunch we just had a wander and picked up another slice of cheesecake (which I didn't share) for the room. We're currently having chill time in the apartment, I had a non-alcoholic San Miguel with apple (very refreshing) and K is still working on a Victoria Sin and eating disgusting vegetable crisps. My cheesecake was wonderful, I'll be having another slice tomorrow!

No idea what we'll do until dinner in 4 hours. I'm exhausted!
